Trickster’s Treats! (A Fun Hallowe’en Magazine)
We’re feeling tricky… and also treaty!! Want to be part of a fun, free-to-enter Hallowe’en spooky special? ‘Trickster’s Treats!’ is a digital magazine (initially – It might be printed, but no promises yet.) With a few weeks to go for the deadline, we’re looking for NEW (no reprints please) short stories; that’s 6 themes with 6 stories in each… but there’s a catch – you’d be limited to 666 words, and you’d have to chose a theme when you submit 🙂 In return, if your story makes it through, you either get six AU dollars as spendies, or a copy of the e-magazine… Trickster’s Treats!
Email Trickster@OzHorrorCon.com and use the subject from one of the following 6 themes (e.g. A Festive Frolic!)
Pick wisely. You can choose only one, and only 6 stories will be chosen from each theme…
1. A Festive Frolic (Hallowe’en, darkly humourous)
2. Home’s where the heart isn’t (Thriller, dark suspense home invasion. Keep us on edge)
3. Those damned kids! (Creepy kids. Keep the creep factor)
4. A Haunted Housewarming (Paranormal. Make us scared, very scared)
5. Carnival* (Circus, Fairground…)
6. Office-party pranks (Sinister, dark humour. Make us paranoid, not that they don’t already think we are…)
There. Make your bed, lie on it. Be careful what you wish for, and if it’s too good to be true, it’s probably not what you think it is… Yours in trickery – The Trickster!
Keep to the theme. We don’t like extreme, nasty, torture-porn or bigoted material of any kind. Apart from a quality review, we won’t be editing these in our normal way, so do give it your very best shot. Make sure you spell-check (US, UK or AUS/NZ) and please use simple formatting… No underlines, use «double-quotes» for speech, single or double-lined is fine. Try to avoid present tense unless you’re very well-versed with that mode. Make it eerie, creepy, tense (or funny.) No reprints, and do ask your critics to read it, not your friends. Deadline is 30th September… Oh, and keep to the theme. It is Hallowe’en, and that means it’s Trickster’s Treat time!
